More Information On Reviewing

Social Action Interactive Posters Co-Chairs

Pamela Burke, AT&T, USA
Andrea Mosher, Xerox, USA

Social Action Interactive Posters show the many ways CHI professionals make a difference in their communities. Discussions at the Poster sessions enable us to find ways of using our talents and expertise to create a common ground for communication and mutual support in our local, regional, national or international communities.

Review Process

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the field using criteria which are different from the standard CHI criteria. Does the poster describe a social action project clearly? Does it explain how a viewer can find out more information, or carry out a similar project, or make a contribution? Will the graphic presentation encourage people to explore the material and engage in discussion with the presenter? Social Action Interactive Posters need not be related to technology or technological innovation.

Format

Conference Companion Summary.

Prepare a two page camera-ready summary, suitable for publication in the CHI 96 Conference Companion. The summary must be in the Conference Proceedings Format.

Poster Sketch.

Prepare a sketch of the poster. We prefer a one-page bird's eye view of the overall poster layout, rather than many pages of detailed contents.

Electronic Version.

Electronic versions of accepted social action interactive posters summaries will be published on the CHI 96 CD-ROM. They are due at the same deadline as the rest of the submission.

The electronic version of the summary must be provided on a disk (PC or Mac). The disk should have a label indicating the disk's type (PC or Mac), the primary author, the title of the submission, and the format of the file on the disk. Acceptable formats are listed on Cover Page Three. Make sure that you indicate also the format of electronic submission on Cover Page Three.

Please note that publication schedules do not permit revisions of any materials for the CHI 96 Conference Companion and the CHI 96 CD-ROM. If the submission is accepted, the Conference Companion Summaries will be printed for the Conference Companion and copied on the CD-ROM in the form in which each was received.

We therefore encourage authors to take the time to perfect their descriptions, both for the quality of the publication and the likelihood of acceptance.

Upon Acceptance

Authors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by the end of January 1996.

Summaries of accepted Social Action Interactive Posters will be published in the CHI 96 Conference Companion and on the CHI 96 CD-ROM.

At the Conference

Each accepted Social Action Interactive Poster will have display space (approximately 2.5 m by 1.2 m), with a table for other materials, optionally including an informal demonstration and/or videotape. Interactive Poster author(s) will be expected to be present at scheduled times for informal discussions at their posters.
