- Basic Research Symposium
- The Basic Research Symposium, held prior to the main Conference, considers a
range of research issues in HCI.
- Demonstrations
- Demonstrations enable participants to view systems in action and discuss
them with the people who created them.
- Design Briefings
- Design Briefings present notable user interface designs with special
emphasis on conceptual issues embodied in the designs.
- Doctoral Consortium
- The Doctoral Consortium, held prior to the main Conference, allows doctoral
students in the final stages of their research projects to interact with more
experienced researchers.
- Organization Overviews
- Organization Overviews provide briefings on the work of organizations
engaged in HCI research and practice.
- Panels
- Panels allow speakers and the audience to reflect on and discuss provocative
HCI issues.
- Papers
- Papers report new research findings from mature work in formal 20 minute
presentations. Some Paper sessions will include Short Papers.
- Interactive Posters
- Posters are on display in the Commons throughout the conference. At certain
times, authors are available for interaction. Social Action Posters aim to
identify socially important issues.
- Short Papers
- Short Papers report late breaking research findings in formal 10 minute
presentations. Short Papers will be presented in selected Paper sessions.
- Workshops
- Workshops take place prior to the main conference. They bring together
people with a very focused shared interest.
- Special Interest Groups
- Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
provide short meetings during the conference, centered around a focused
shared interest.
- Videos
- Videos showcase innovative HCI design, methodology and interaction
techniques and are shown continuously throughout the conference in the
Convention Center.
- Plenaries
- Herb Clark and Betty Edwards are the Plenary speakers at CHI 96.
- Invited Contributions
- A new event for CHI, Invited Contributions come from outside the
traditional HCI disciplines.
- Conference Reviews
- A CHI 96 innovation, pre-conference events will be reported on
at the end of the conference.
