Crossing the Border
Crossing the border between Canada and the U.S. is straightforward. A little
planning and the proper documentation will ensure a minimum of formality. In
general, U.S. citizens and permanent residents need only carry a birth or
baptismal certificate, voter's registration card or current U.S. driver's
license. Please make sure that you have one of these forms of identification
for each of the persons travelling with you, and especially your children.
Naturalized citizens should be able to produce documents proving citizenship,
and permanent alien residents should carry their green card.
Visitors from countries other than the U.S. must have a valid passport and in
some cases an entry visa. Please check with the Canadian Consulate in your
country of origin for information on visa requirements.
