SIG: HCI and Users With Disabilities
Wednesday, 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Organizer
- Alistair D N Edwards, University of York
How well can users who are blind access the interfaces you have
designed or built? What about people who cannot use keyboards,
because of a manual impairment? The purpose of this SIG will be to
bring together people asking these kinds of questions with those who
have been trying to answer them. Participants will discuss issues
such as whether designing for users with special needs can improve
designs for all users; how interface designers can find out how to
make their interfaces more accessible to all; how to convince a
commercial company to expend resources to accommodate a minority of
potential users; the implications of legislation; possibilities in
multi-modal interfaces; and the role of professional organizations.
