SIG: CHI Ten Year View: A Community Discussion
Wednesday, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Organizers
- Catherine R. Marshall, Collaborative Technologies,
- David G. Novick, Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology
This SIG will allow interested CHI 96 attendees to participate in a
community discussion of the results of the one-day workshop entitled
"CHI Ten Year View: Creating and Sustaining Common Ground." In the
workshop, a group of interested CHI professionals will (1) use methods
derived from corporate strategic planning to create three scenarios
describing alternative possible futures for the field of CHI in the
year 2006; and (2) use these scenarios to identify ways the
CHI community can create and sustain commong ground that will help it
thrive and make important contributions in 2006 and beyond.
At the beginning of the SIG, participants from the workshop will
describe the three scenarios developed in the workshop. Then the SIG
participants will be invited to ask questions, provide comments,
discuss their own views of the future, and suggest ways the
workshop results might be put to good use. Finally, we will discuss
ways that interested SIG participants might be involved in further work
with the CHI Ten Year View scenarios.
